Dishwashers of the German brand "Neff" are not only reliable and functional, but also able to diagnose any malfunction in the operation of all important components and mechanisms. The device informs about this by the breakdown code through the display on the control panel. How to decipher the errors of NEFF dishwashers and in which cases you can fix the problem yourself, we will describe in the article.
How the “Neff” Trouble Codes Decrypt
The NEFF dishwasher warning system does not have a standard set of codes. Each model can have its own. Therefore, we included in the list all possible combinations of letters and numbers that may appear on the display of any model of PMM brand “Neff”.
Consider the meaning of the codes available to the user without a test (service) mode:
- E01, E05 - in both cases, problems in the control module. You will need the help of a wizard to further diagnose the device.
- E1 - lack of heating due to a problem with sensors or electronics. It is also possible short circuit or open circuit in the heater.
- E02, E04 - Water does not heat up due to a malfunction of the electronics. With an E02 error, most likely the heater relay on the control board has broken.
- E2 - The temperature sensor (NTC) has broken. In most cases, the part must be replaced.
- E03 - Additional drying is faulty. Reasons: the TEN relay broke down (is responsible for its operation), the contact in the circuit has gone or the wire itself has broken.
- E3- problem with water intake: the PMM tank is filling longer than the set time. This occurs when there is insufficient pressure in the water supply or the supply tap is shut off. Pipes may be clogged, the intake valve or the chamber door may be loose. More serious problems, such as a breakdown in the inlet solenoid valve, pressure switch or controller, should be fixed by a specialist.
- E4 - breakdown of the sensor (switch) of the flow, which is responsible for the distribution of water in the sprayers. It may not work properly due to clogging or in the event of an open circuit.
- E5 - excess of water level in the chamber. This occurs when there is blockage in the drainage system or it is damaged. The pressure switch or intake valve may also be defective.
- E06 - damage to the camera door position sensor. The start of the washing is blocked because there is no signal that the door is closed. The reason may be a broken door lock, which is easy to fix on your own. If the sensor breaks, you will have to change it.
- E6, E28 - malfunction of the aquasensor, which checks the quality of the water when rinsing. The control module or the sensor itself may be defective. The latter needs to be replaced.
- E07 - the drain does not work. The reason is the improper loading of dishes, which may block the hole for the outflow of liquid.
- E08, E8 - low water level in the chamber. The heater will not turn on because the circulation pump does not have enough water. The cause must be sought in the wrong set of the latter or in violation of the installation of the drain hose.
- E09, E9 - malfunction of the heating element. Perhaps the wire broke or the contact in the TENA circuit is loose. If it burns out, you will have to replace the part.
- E10 - drying does not start due to a malfunction in the heater or fan.
- E11 - the temperature sensor has broken. In this case, it either does not work at all, or shows incorrect data. It is necessary to check the circuit and inspect the contacts. If the thermistor breaks, it is replaced.
- E12 - poor drying or insufficient heat. Most likely, the heater has overgrown with a layer of scale and this does not allow it to function properly.
- E13 - indicates the flow of too hot water (above 75 ° C) due to a breakdown of the temperature sensor.
- E14 - error of the water flow sensor. The reasons are standard: the circuit has broken, the contacts have moved or the part itself has broken.
- E15 - the Aquastop leakage protection system worked. It is necessary to find the place of leakage: check hoses, body and other components of the PMM for damage. If the drain pump itself flows, a new part is installed.
The error may appear after the control module has been replaced. Try rebooting your device. (How to restart the PMM, read after the list of errors.)
- E16 - leakage of valves or sensors. It is necessary to inspect the PMM nodes for leaks. Damaged parts are best replaced.
- E17 - Gulf error (associated with high pressure or overflow). It is necessary to check the pressure in the water supply and reduce it. The pressure switch or the filling valve may have broken.
- E18 - low water level in the tank. Most likely, the inlet valve has broken, but also an error can indicate the problems described in codes E3 and E14.
- E19 - means an internal error. You must contact the service center.
- E20, E21 - the circulation pump is not functioning or is blocked. The malfunction is connected either with an open circuit in the pump motor or with a breakdown of the tachogenerator or capacitor. Then their replacement will be required.
- E22, E24, E25 - problems with the drain. There may be a defect or clogging of the filter (or drain hose). It is necessary to exclude the incorrect connection of the latter, as well as the failure of the drain pump.
- E23 - the drain pump has broken. You can check the pump blades for the presence of foreign objects that can block its operation. If the part itself is broken, then either repair or its replacement will be required.
- E26 - error of the water flow sensor. It is necessary to check the circuit for an open, contacts, as well as the part itself.
- E27, E29, E30 - indicate a power failure. E27 indicates low voltage, E30 - high, E29 indicates its absence. What to do? First, call an electrician to check the wiring and further repair. If the problem persists, then contact a service center.
If any other alphanumeric combination (which is not in the list) is displayed on the screen, then a technical malfunction has occurred. You can try to fix the situation by rebooting the device.
To restart the PMM, you should:
- disconnect the equipment from the power supply;
- wait a while (at least 10 minutes);
- try to start the device again.
If the reinstallation of the PMM was unsuccessful, you must contact the service center for the repair of household appliances.
What does this or that code mean, we figured it out. But sometimes a signal about malfunctioning of the dishwasher is accompanied by a light or flashing of indicators on the control panel. Consider their meaning below.
- The display blinks. This indicates that the chamber door is not tightly closed.
- The “Crane” indicator lights up. It notifies that water does not start into the chamber. Possible causes are described in E18 code.
- The wash indicator lights up. It signals that the machine needs to be washed.
- Synchronous blinking of all indicators on the panel indicates a failure in the software or control board. In such cases, the manufacturer recommends restarting the equipment in the instructions for the device. If the reboot did not help, then calling the wizard will be the most correct solution.
What other problems arise during the operation of the dishwasher, read below.
Causes of malfunctioning dishwasher "Neff"
Other malfunctions can also indicate a malfunction in the NEFF dishwasher. In most cases, they arise due to improper operation:
- The machine does not turn on. Check the condition of the socket and fuse.
- The program starts spontaneously. Most likely, you did not wait for the dishwasher to finish working. Try to cancel the program (Reset).
- Detergent dispenser lid does not close. Most likely, the remaining powder has accumulated inside the container and needs to be removed.
- The camera door does not close. Perhaps the door lock has popped off or the appliance is not installed according to the instructions.
- Strong foaming. Make sure that the rinse aid is not spilled anywhere. It is possible that powder for manual washing accidentally fell into the rinse aid compartment.
- Noise during PMM operation. Knocking can be emitted by spray guns that touch the dishes during rotation. Reinstalling the noise will help eliminate the noise. It may be that light tableware moves during washing. They should be installed more steadily.
How to fix other failures in the work of the PMM "Neff" with your own hands, we will describe below.
NEFF Dishwasher Repair
The decision on self-repair of the dishwasher, which is under warranty, must be balanced. Since further repair under warranty by specialists of the service center will be impossible.
Let's consider how to fix the most characteristic failures of the Neff brand PMM.
Before starting repairs, make sure that the device is disconnected from the power supply and water supply.
Water leak
The most unpleasant situation that requires quick action. First of all, it is necessary to identify the place of leakage.
What to do:
- Check drain and inlet hoses. Tighten their mounts. If the pipes are damaged, replace them.
- Inspect the seal on the chamber door. It may have worn out and needs to be replaced.
- Check the dishwasher housing for defects. If a hole or other damage is found in it, then it cannot be repaired.

Problems in the drain system
The drainage tract suffers most often, as many owners ignore the basic rules for operating the equipment, namely:
- before loading from the dishes do not remove food debris;
- refuse to systematically clean the filters.
Understanding why this is necessary comes only after the machine “responded” with a breakdown.
How to fix the drain system:
- Open the hopper, remove the loading baskets and trays from it.
- At the bottom of the camera, find the filter and unscrew it.
- Clean and rinse it off dirt.
- In the place of the twisted filter, find the white cover and remove it (there is a drainage pump behind it).
- Inspect the impeller blades. Clean up existing debris or other foreign objects.
- Reassemble the parts in reverse order.
If the drain pump itself is faulty, it is replaced.
Poor washing quality
Dirty dishes after washing indicate that the equipment has ceased to cope with its direct duties. The reason to look for the following:
- Incorrect download. To wash dishes well from all sides, do not overload the camera and place objects close to each other. You also need to ensure that the plates do not interfere with the free rotation of the rocker arm.
- Incorrect program selection washing. To eliminate grease and dried dirt, it is better to set a more intensive washing program with a long cycle. Otherwise, the washing quality will be unsatisfactory.
- Filters clogged or not fixed. Insert them correctly and lock firmly. How to clean the part, see above.
- Blocked or spray arms are clogged. A large plate can block their rotation. Reinstalling items in the camera will help solve the problem. If sprayers are clogged, the rocker arms must be removed and their holes cleaned of dirt.
How to clean the filter and dishwasher nozzles, see the video
If the washing quality remains the same, the problem must be sought in the malfunctioning of the circulation pump or heater.
The elimination of serious malfunctions, such as the failure of important components of the device or control board, is best entrusted to the master. Indeed, sometimes self-repair can aggravate the problem even more.
